The device can be chained with your existing floppy drives, until usual rules are respected (see here after).
Tests were succesfully conducted with the following hardware:
Computers:
- Apple //c ROM 3.5
- Apple IIgs ROM01 and ROM3 (a smartboot disk is required to boot from the SmartPortVHD)
- Apple IIe with Liron card
- Apple IIc+ (a problem is encountered with more than four devices, but it's related to the IIc+)
- Apple IIe card for Macintosh, not tested
5.25 floppy drives (these floppy drives must be connected at the end of the chain):
- Disk //c A2M4050
- Apple 5.25 A9M0107
3.5 floppy drives:
- Apple 3.5 A9M0106 (these floppy drives must alway be before the SmartPortVHD in the chain)
- Unidisk 3.5 A9M2053
USB device:
- USB keys
- USB card reader with either SD or CF card
- USB hard drive, must be self powered, (supported since 23 january 2012)
Operating systems:
- ProDOS 8
- ProDOS 16
- GS/OS
- GEOS
- Pascal
For memory, within an Apple drives daisy chain, the following order must be respected:
- 5.25 floppy drives must be always after 3.5 floppy drives
- 5.25 floppy drives must be always after the SmartPortVHD
- Unidisk 3.5 and SmartPortVHD must be always after Apple 3.5 floppy drives
- Unidisk 3.5 could be before or after the SmartPortVHD
